The pink haired princess had decided that today would be the perfect of days to go and visit the Lower Quarter, of course she had wanted to visit the little bookstore like she always did - but it would also be nice to visit some of the residents. Maybe a friend or two if she happened to run into them.
Today she wore something that would help her blend in a little easier, she really didn’t want to have to deal with guard detail, it made going into the Lower Quarter really awkward and people stared. She really didn’t want that sort of attention, and it was no secret that she was on friendly terms with a criminal and was actually quite fond of the dark-haired man she had in mind. And well… being followed was truly bothersome sometimes and she always felt so restricted — usually there was at least one person she didn’t mind being her guard.
The dress she wore today was a simple one, a white blouse that hung off of her shoulders a dark brown leather corset embroidered with golden floral designs with a pink skirt to finish off. She still looked like a noble, and still stood out like a sore thumb not everyone had pink hair. But at least she thought she would blend in a little more.
It wasn’t long before she had reached her destination, oh she wondered how the nice family who ran the little bookstore was doing. She hoped that they were in good health, they were always so nice to her. Sometimes they’d let her read stories to the children, it always gave Estelle a happy and warm feeling to read stories to others. Seeing the expressions wash across their faces as events unraveled in the story.
Oo-ooh… she was so caught up in her own thoughts she didn’t notice the familiar face sitting on the bench in front of her. The man sitting on the bench sure did look like Yuri… but wait… was he reading, that was very un-Yuri like. Quietly Estelle tip-toed over and sat onto the bench next to him, careful to not make a sound just due to the fact Yuri never read.
Like a curious child she peered over his shoulder to see what he was reading, “Oh!” A small gasp left her lips, when she noticed what he was reading.
Indeed, Yuri hadn’t noticed Estelle’s arrival. His usually perfect situational awareness was blinded by his own daydream created by the book. Her presence next to him subconsciously steered his imagination further in her direction. Her gasp broke his focus. His eyes, while once fiery and focused, changed look like a deer’s in headlights and his face flushed faster than believable. He felt as though she had been able to scan his thoughts while watching him read, and was utterly embarrassed — though not because he was caught reading.
He continued to focus on his book, not reading, but too embarrassed to make eye contact. He suddenly realized he had been holding his breath for the first few moments after noticing her. He exhaled and collected himself before addressing the princess.
“Hey Estelle! I didn’t expect to see you here.” the vigilante lied calmly. He was smiling though, clearly happy to see her. His face was still a little red, but there was no helping it. He blinked, noticing how close she was to him as a result of her curiosity in his choice of reading. He recalled a situation like this in the book he was just reading. Shifting his face slightly closer to hers, he became immersed in his daydream yet again. Closer… closer… clo— his self control kicked in at the last instant as he pulled away and reddened up again. “Ah, sorry… I… dunno what’s wrong with me…”
He folded the page he was on in the book and closed it. “I was just, uhm, yeah…” he waved the book in front of him, indicating what he meant. “So what’re you up to today?” Amazing how well he can recover like that.
“Hey Rita, how’re you doing, kid?” Yuri addressed the asymmetrically-dressed mage.
Tear can make people sleep with her fonic hymns.
Tear’s songs are the ultimate lullaby.
Yuri sat on a bench outside the Lower Quarter’s old bookstore flipping through the pages of a rather tattered book recently purchased. He knew Estelle visited this shop often, as some of his old friends in the capital mentioned it to him when he came back to town. It made sense — the shop was quaint, run by a nice family, but also collected a fair number of rare and exotic literature from the travelers that passed through the lower quarter — however he had no idea when she’d actually come by, so he decided to get some reading done while he waited.
At first he had just pretended to flip through it a few times, just to look busy in case she did show, but he finally bored himself enough to actually pay attention to the story. The book itself was the one Estelle was reading when he was outside her window, though in a far worse condition. Some pages were completely ruined, but he filled in the plot as he went. It was a fantastic story, although the characters were slightly basic.
Perhaps that was the author’s — what was his name? The cover was too worn to tell, but it didn’t matter — intent in writing the story. He found it easy to substitute himself for the hero, and people he knew for other characters. When he finally substituted Estelle for the clueless love interest, he had created an entire scenario of his life out of this text.
He was immersed in plot and imagination. Maybe this was the reason Estelle liked the book; he could only hope she replaced the characters similarly, or at least backwards, but he highly doubted it. At the very least, he could pretend his own dreams were reality while reading. If all books were like this, he was going to be addicted. His eyes glued to the pages of the novel, he hadn’t noticed the princess approach the bookstore.
Dear… person I like…
I think you’re great. It’s really hard to say there’s anyone here deserving of you, so that makes you the reason I try to do better. I’d tell you this in person, but I’m afraid you’re too naive to get how I really feel…
One day… I’ll help you understand…
Note to self:
Make sure Flynn’s running the Knights well. Be sure Brave Vesperia’s in good standing. Improve the quality of life for everyone.
If you didn’t hold to your goals by then, what’s the point to what I’m doing now?
(The rest is scribbled out, but is still slightly legible)
P.S. Confess to her somehow. Just do it…
Forget how you got this, just remember this… not everyone is out to get you; let your friends in a little. If you shoulder everything yourself, you’ll only worry them.
- Future Yuri
Why does she notice you more..? I want that attention…
Prison was fun, even if it only lasted a couple hours. I heard there’s more kinky stuff to do. Maybe one of us could lock up the other one day and try it out~♥
I actually think you’re doing a good job. I say I don’t so you keep trying hard. Don’t let this get to your head, though.
P.S. - Catch up with me.
Dear person I hate,

“Wow, you really need to be sharpened.”
Sigh. “I have to do it? What a pain… I could always pay someone.”
“How’d you get worn out already?”
“You and I BOTH know I only use you for fighting. If you’re gonna have that attitude, you’re not getting sharpened.”
“Ah hah…he likes Milla already, and I’m fine with that, if he’s happy.”
“But does Milla like him back? She doesn’t seem to have a firm grasp on this relationships thing.”
“Good advice. But I’m not going to bother him with this the instant he gets back. I’m not going to bring it up at all.”
“Well if you never talk to him about it, it never happens. Just make sure you don’t make my mistakes and start competing for his affection cause someone else came along.”
